We exist today in a paradox of elusive wellness and abundant medical treatment, and it makes no sense. We look to conventional medical treatment to manage symptoms and we accept our declining health as a normal part of aging. We need to re-evaluate this process, own our individual health and look deeper as to why we ended up here.
Every one of us should be a functional expert on our own body. Why aren’t we? Because we give up control to the AMA, ADA, and other government institutions designed to manage illness and not promote health. We do what these institutions tell us to, and what have their prescriptions achieved? Cancer, heart disease, diabetes and many other diseases are all on a dramatic increase. We feel sick and we choose to hide the symptoms with a pill rather than recognize that our bodies are telling us something is wrong with what we are doing. We are dumbfounded by our illnesses because we have lost the ancestral context of our existence.
Our environment is retrofitted around us so that we roll rather than walk, sit rather than squat, and recline rather than lay. Our backs hurt, our knees ache, and our joints are stiff. Because we feel this way, we sit longer, roll around more and take pain medication, never realizing that the cause is from the very sedentary lifestyles we have adopted. Simply put, use your body’s capacity or lose it.
Our idea of nutrition is obscene and contributes to our chronic illnesses. We consume products that were engineered in a lab rather than grown from wild animals or plants. These chemicals with names we cannot even pronounce are listed on the “foods” we eat, and yet we eat them because the FDA said they are safe. Gluten, a well established allergen, is in nearly all of the “foods” that form the base of our prescribed food pyramid (grains), yet cholesterol, the substance that makes up a large part of every cell of our body, is demonized.
We are sick and in pain. The sad part is that the pain we feel, as a consequence of avoiding the pain we fear, is far greater. Muscle soreness after a workout goes away after a couple of days, but bad backs, without intervention, last for lifetimes. Processed foods add excess fat, inflammation and degrade our bodies, while whole, unprocessed foods (with sufficient cholesterol), build muscle, add energy, boost libido and improve mental clarity. Despite the health risks of processed foods, we continue to eat them as the base of our diet because they taste sweeter, are cheaper (addictive to some) and far easier to obtain.
So what should we do? How do we find the optimal path to wellness? Well, it takes time and work gaining an understanding and investing in ourselves. But there is one simple guiding principle that clarifies everything: context. If we do not understand the context of our existence, then we have no direction. To align our being within the proper human context, we need to Ancestralize. We need to recognize that we are natural beings living in an unnatural world. A world we have created because our brain capacity has exceeded our body’s ability to adapt. It’s our evolved tendency to conserve energy that has been taken too far by our brains capacity to make everything easy. It’s time to put our brains to work at improving our health through the ancestral context. As our lives have become easier, more health challenges have appeared. These challenges are a result of the neolithic context we have created. Our own immune systems, designed to protect us, are lost and out of context, and so they now attack us (autoimmunity).
This is a bleak picture that I have painted, but it is reversible. Many have already reversed serious diseases and regained capacity to live tremendous lives of their choosing by understanding and expressing their proper human context. We invite you to explore and engage in Ancestralizing your life. We evolved to be strong, vibrant and wise beings. You can achieve this existence by embracing the ancestral human context. Retrain your brain to strive not for excess food and minimal movement, but to restore your innate life capacity; the new evolution. Become a functional expert on your own body and couple science with primal wisdom.
