Why do we always need to have something to say? Why do we have to commit to an opinion on everything? Wait, don’t you always have to take a stand for something, to be exhaustively knowledgeable in several areas? Does having an opinion on every current event really mean that you are in touch with the world around you? What about being simply contemplative? Is there ever a time when just sitting back and watching and not responding is good enough?
Is straight silence ever good enough?
If your opinions and declarations on your Facebook newsfeed were to disappear, would you disappear as well? What would people think if you didn’t always have an answer to their question or something witty to inject? Would people think less of you if you couldn’t be a paragon of appropriate living? What if you started to view the questions as more important than having the answers? If you aren’t questioning what is around you and more importantly your own thoughts and assumptions, aren’t you ceasing to grow and live?
What if you started to view the questions as more important than having the answers?
What if you could be a more sincere and genuine person by letting down your guard and admitting that you do not have all of the answers? What if everyone knew you are not who they think your are, for better or worse? What if you could live a better life letting go of all the things your are trying to decorate yourself with, while trashing the facade and looking a bit, or a lot, uncertain?
